Live ammunition used again in Ni'ilin

A private security guard, hired by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, opened fire on unarmed Palestinian, Israeli and international demonstrators in Ni'ilin. No one was hit by the bullets, but a number of demonstrators were hit by bits of stones that ricocheted as a result of the bullets' impact.

The shooting began only several minutes into the demonstration, as demonstrators got close to the heavy machinery, and despite the fact that some of the protesters held their hands over their heads. There was absolutely no threat posed to the guards or work crew. The shooting was not preceded by stone throwing or any other form of violence by the demonstrators. A border police force arrived at the scene very quickly and started using teargas and rubber-coated bullets. Eight were injured, including a seven year old who was hit in the back by a rubber-coated bullet and a French demonstrator who was shot in the head with a teargas projectile.

Approximately two weeks ago a ten year old and a seventeen year old were shot to death by border policeman as part of the violent military suppression of the popular Ni'ilin uprising against the wall. For the past three months, the army has been using harsh and illegitimate violence against the village, which besides the two deaths included, amongst other things, the imposition of siege and curfew , the wounding of four demonstrators by live ammo, the pointblank shooting of a cuffed and blindfolded detainee, dozens of arrests and hundreds of injuries.

Since the beginning of the struggle in Ni'ilin, the army portrays demonstrators as violent and provoking through the mainstream media. Though the army's violence in the suppression of popular insurrections was very clearly exposed by its actions in the last three months, the military still peddles the same story.

The legal measures taken against a few of the perpetrators of military violence were forced on the army by public outrage. This is pure lip service, and the very mild measures prove that the army does not see such acts as problematic, except on a public relations perspective.

Al dameer al arabi "the arab conscience"

In 1998 “El-Helm El-Arabi” (The Arab Dream) brought together 23 singers from all over the Arab World; they sang for world peace, it was a very touching song especially when it shows how we, and every single person living in the Middle East suffers from continuous fighting, killing, and struggle every single day.
A decade has passed since the last time Arab singers united and released El-Helm El-Arabi, Unfortunately, nothing has changed! Apart from more problems and more conflicts; and of course more children dying every single day in Palestine and Iraq... We still have the same problems and conflicts we used to have 10 years ago. Gaza, Beirut, and of course Baghdad! Sadness everywhere, the death toll following the Israeli assault against Gaza Strip since last Wednesday has increased to 118, mainly children, while more than 350 were wounded.
The Arab singers have decided to unite again and present a new song which is called “Al Dameer El-Arabi”, hoping for a better future.

East Jerusalem demonstration protests Wall in Beit Hanina

Hundreds of Jerusalem citizens and residents of Beit Hanina protested along the Wall in the northern Jerusalem town. The nonviolent demonstration stressed the right of Palestinians to preserve land confiscated by construction of the Wall.
Beit Hanina served as a significant site to protest on the four year anniversary of the International Court of Justice decision. Building of the Wall caused the destruction of olive trees planted there hundreds of years ago.Beginning early in the morning, protestors assembled in front of a council of Beit Hanina officials, calling on them to combine their efforts to take down the Wall.Demonstrators remembered the ICJ decision against the legality of the Wall four years ago Wednesday. They demanded that the international community push Israel to apply the ruling.Israeli soldiers stood at the scene, hindering movement in the streets. Their strong presence reflected the determination of Palestinians to claim their right to access their land.Israeli forces surrounded demonstrators on the main street of Beit Hanina. Verbal altercations ensued as protestors demanded that soldiers leave the area. Dozens of young protesters tried to go over the Wall but Israeli forces prevented them from doing so. Five were arrested.
